Federal Election Commission

Federal political action committees are strictly governed by the rules of the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

There are limits to how much PACs can give to candidates.
PACs can give:
  • $5,000 to a candidate committee per election (primary, general, or special election)
  • $15,000 annually to any national political party commitee
  • $5,000 annually to any other PAC
There are also limits to how much PACs can receive.
PACs can receive:
  • No more than $5,000 from any one individual, PAC, or party committee per the calendar year.
PACs are legally required to disclose their receipts and disbursements to the FEC.Contributors who contribute more than $200 per year must be identified and the amounts of their contributions made public. All disbursements are must be reported.
